- Embossing
- Impressing an image in relief to achieve a raised surface.
- Embroidery
- Stitching a design into fabric through the use of high-speed, computer-controlled sewing machines. Artwork must first be 'digitised', which is the specialised process of converting two-dimensional artwork into stitches or thread. A particular format of art such as a jpeg, tif, eps, or bmp, cannot be converted into an embroidery tape. The digitiser must actually recreate the artwork using stitches. Then it programs the sewing machine to sew a specific design, in a specific colour, with a specific type of stitch. This is the process known as digitising. Not to be confused with the process of creating a weave.
- EPS (encapsulated postscript) file
- An alternative picture file format that allows PostScript data to be stored and edited and is easy to transfer between Macintosh, MSDOS and other systems.
- Exact rerun
- Usually there is no set-up charge on exact reruns of an order.
- Elastic
- An elastomer is a polymer with the property of elasticity. The term, which is derived from elastic polymer, is often used interchangeably with the term rubber, and is preferred when referring to vulcanisates. Each of the monomers which link to form the polymer is usually made of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen and/or silicon. Elastomers are amorphous polymers existing above their glass transition temperature, so that considerable segmental motion is possible. At ambient temperatures rubbers are thus relatively soft (E~3MPa) and deformable. Their primary uses are for seals, adhesives and molded flexible parts.
- Encryption
- The process of translating information into a code that can only be read if the reader has access to the key that was used to encrypt it. There are two main types of encryption—asymmetric (or public key) and symmetric (or secret key).
- EPassport
- A travel document that contains an integrated circuit chip based on international standard ISO/IEC 14443 and that can securely store and communicate the ePassport holder’s personal information to authorized reading devices.

- Elliptic Curve Cryptography
- EMV
- Europay MasterCard Visa. Specifications developed by Europay, MasterCard and Visa that define a set of requirements to ensure interoperability between payment chip cards and terminals.
- Eavesdropping
- The interception of communications between a reader and a credential during transmission by unintended recipients. Messages can be protected against eavesdropping by employing a security service usually implemented by encryption.
